ABOUT MID-AMERICA COUNCIL

Who We Are

The Mid-America Council is one of 22 IMA regional councils in the United States, and 3 additional global councils (Europe, Middle East, and Asia Pacific).  The councils support the local IMA chapters, which are the backbone of the organization.  Fueled and managed solely by dedicated volunteers, the councils provide an added layer of community and personalization to IMA membership.  Mid-America Council events include an annual professional development conference and our CLEW (Chapter Leadership Effectiveness Workshop), which also includes professional development opportunities.  These are generally offered annually on consecutive days in the latter part of April.  Councils are guaranteed at least one representative on the Global Board of Directors by submitting nominations of two or more members to the Global Elections Committee.

The Mid-America Council was formed in 1975 by Bob Walker and Sammy Samuelson (Calumet Chapter), Paul Welsh (Illinois, Northeast Chapter), and Arnie Swenson (Rockford Chapter), to consolidate manpower for NAA’s 1977 National Convention in Chicago.  The Mid-America Region now includes twelve active chapters from Illinois, Wisconsin, Eastern Iowa and Northwest Indiana and serves as support for its twelve chapters.  Each chapter is encouraged to nominate three delegates to serve on the council.  The council meets four times annually at various locations within its region.
